Here, we’ve aimed to quantify savings based on a typical 100 cow herd. If this doesn’t sum up your farm you could read our Dairy success stories – they’ll give you an idea of how much our dairy farmer customers have and continue to save.
We’ve calculated that the cost saving associated with the reduction in labour and tractor costs for mixing up a 200,000 gallon tank (typical size for a 100 cow herd) is approximately £951. The cost of the Epizym Cattle plus allowance for a quick agitation just prior to spreading is approximately £375, a saving of £576. Benefits maybe higher where considerable time or contractors are used.
A review of four Epizym customers, with varying herd sizes, farming practices and geographic locations, show an average saving on bagged fertiliser of £3,926 per 100 cows.

"For an outlay of £375 (depending on slurry storage capacity) a benefit of some £4,502 is available to the farmer. Naturally there is some variability according to the systems employed, grass site score etc.
A Cheshire farmer has applied the benefits of the reduction in leaf contamination and faster soil absorption by being able to cut chemical fertiliser applications. Given a low stocking rate, good pastures and being able to apply slurry throughout the growing season, the reduction in nitrogen applications is 50%. This has saved 15 tonnes of nitrogen, cost of £5,175 (2008 prices) for 80 cows and youngstock. This works out at £64.68 per cow or £6,468 per 100 cows. |
