During the early 1990s, the Epizym Pigs formula for slurry digestion was successfully trialled on a number of commercial pig farms and many of the independently selected participants have now become satisfied customers.
Trials have shown that Epizym Pigs reduces emissions of ammonia and other odour compounds, improving the pig housing environment. The effect of Epizym Pigs was trialed on odour emissions in an intensive pig finishing unit. Results showed:
- Odour emissions (units) decreased by 53%
- Odour emissions per kg pig liveweight decreased by 55%

Ammonia capture also boosts the organic fertiliser value of slurry as ammonia-N is more readily available to the crop. The effect of Epizym on total-N content and ammonia-N retention of pig slurry in intensive systems:
- Total Available Nitrogen increased by 33%
- Total Ammonia Nitrogen increased by 57%
- Total Available Nitrogen increased by 6%
- Total Ammonia Nitrogen increased by 4%
