Managing Director, Epizym

“Our products make life easier for farmers – reducing costs by cutting out slurry management hassle and instead making the most of organic waste on the land”

Stuart was educated at Strathallan School in Perthshire and started his professional career in the Merchant Navy working for British Petroleum and Chevron.   He is a Master Mariner by qualification and attained the rank of Chief Officer before leaving the sea to become a Marine Pilot in the Middle East.

Stuart joined Epicore Bionetworks Inc, the original owner of the technology, as one of its seed capitalists in 1991. At that time the company’s operations were based in Calgary, Canada and Stuart developed the protocol applications for its commercial products.   In 1993 he returned to the UK to source an outlet for these products and to help raise further funding for Epicore.   He was instrumental in forming Epizym Biosystems Ltd (“EBL”), a joint venture between Epicore and OCS Group Ltd, and became that company’s General Manager. During his time with EBL he investigated other markets where Epicore’s technology could be used and identified agriculture as the market that should be pursued. In late 1995 he left EBL to pursue other interests but in 1997 he approached Epicore’s  management to buy EBL’s assets, including it’s agricultural technology, and established Epizym Ltd.
